The AI Impact: Are Blogs Still Relevant in the Age of Artificial Intelligence?

This article will cover:
Well, after reading a title like that, I sure hope so! Read on to find out!
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has revolutionized many aspects of our lives, from how we work and shop to how we communicate and entertain ourselves. One area where AI’s influence is particularly significant is content creation, including blogs. With AI tools generating blog content at a pace faster than your average writer can think of a title, and AI search engines answering common blog questions at the snap of a finger, we have to ask ourselves: will AI replace blogs?
The Rise of AI in Content Creation
AI-Powered Writing Assistants
There is no limit to the options of AI-powered writing tools on the market right now. You have GPT-4, Jasper, and Grammarly, plus AI built into platforms like HubSpot for content generation. This stuff is really cool, there is no denying it. It can not only suggest topics for you to write about in a blog, but it can outline your blog, and even take it one step further and write the whole blog for you. (Side note, if you have it write the whole blog for you, look out for Chat GPTs favorite word “delve”).
You can train it to write in a certain style that you like and even adjust the tone to be more playful or more professional or anything really. For businesses and content creators, this means producing quality content quickly and at a lower cost.
I’ll be honest, what prompted this blog was using some of these cool features. I was looking for topic ideas and as I was searching through the results, I couldn’t help but ask myself, “Is my role as a blog writer at risk with all this cool stuff?”
AI can personalize the content recommendations, it can consider SEO keywords and optimization and with tools like DALLE, can even create images for my blog in seconds!
AI is transforming the art of blog writing to something that can be nearly 100% driven by simple prompting.
Reading for efficiency
You also need to consider if people even want to read a blog. I can’t tell you the number of times that I was trying to learn how to do something, so I threw a few words into the Google Search bar and BAM, I got a list of results explaining the answer to my question. Lots of times, those answers are in blog form. Well, now that I have Chat GPT and a number of other AI tools at my fingertips, do I even get to Google Search anymore, or do I default, as a reader, to Chat GPT?
Well, I guess that all depends on what I am searching for.
Do People Still Read Blogs?
The Value of Authenticity
While AI-generated content is efficient, it often lacks the authenticity and personal touch that human writers bring. Readers still value unique perspectives, personal experiences, and the distinctive voice of human authors (and the lack of the word delve in every piece). Blogs that offer genuine insights, relatable stories, and a personal connection, I predict and hope, will continue to attract loyal readers.
Trust and Credibility
In an era of information overload, trust and credibility are paramount. Readers seek content from sources they trust, and blogs with established reputations provide that assurance. Human writers can build relationships with their audience, fostering trust through consistent, reliable, and transparent content. AI on the other hand has disclaimer warnings at the bottom of every message asking for you to verify the data.
Engagement and Interaction
Blogs often serve as platforms for engagement and interaction. Comment sections, social media sharing, and community building around blog content create a dynamic environment where readers can connect, discuss, and share ideas. This interactive element is something AI cannot replicate fully…yet.
The Hybrid Approach: AI and Human Collaboration
Enhancing Human Creativity
Rather than replacing human writers, AI can enhance human creativity and productivity. Writers can use AI tools to handle repetitive tasks, generate ideas, and refine their work, allowing them to focus on crafting engaging and meaningful content. AI enables content creators to experiment with different formats, styles, and topics. It allows them to take the great ideas in their head and execute them in less time. AI is a tool to help blog writers, not a tool to replace them.
The Future of Blogging in the AI Era
Quality Over Quantity
As AI continues to influence content creation, the emphasis will shift towards quality over quantity. Blogs that prioritize high-quality, authentic, and valuable content will stand out in a crowded digital landscape. Generalized content may become saturated with AI-generated articles. Bloggers focusing on niche and specialized topics, offering unique insights and expertise, will attract dedicated audiences seeking that knowledge. The human connection is another factor that must be considered. Blogs that foster genuine connections, engage with readers, and build communities will thrive, regardless of AI advancements.
Content Distribution
It’s said that content is “king,” while distribution is “the queen.” In the AI era, an effective content distribution is more important than ever. With audiences spending time on different channels, attention is more spread, so the more platforms the content is available, the better to keep your brand “top of mind,” be remembered, and be trusted.
In this case, AI-powered content distribution tools can be key to succeed on this. There are existing content distribution tools like HubSpot’s social media planning that are adding AI features to save time and make this process more efficient -and fast.
Repurposing & Updates
While blogs written years ago with valuable content and good SEO positioning attract visitors to the website, content creation and distribution is not a “set it and forget it” process. Especially longer blogs that cover a topic extensively, or that over the years attract qualified traffic to the website, these blogs don’t deserve to be forgotten.
That’s why repurposing is so important. It’s a way of breathing new life to content that has proven to be relevant for your audience, so using that content to create other pieces of content such as reels, carousels, LinkedIn posts, or newsletters, is a way of maximizing your efforts and streamlining this process. Also, updating the pages with more organic traffic with new statistics, links, or quotes, can be beneficial to stay relevant and keep your positioning through blogging in the age of AI.
